Introduction
NURS FPX 4025 Assessment 2 focuses on applying an evidence-based practice (EBP) model to address a clinical problem. This assessment emphasizes the use of a structured EBP framework to guide nursing interventions, improve patient outcomes, and promote quality care.
Selected EBP Model
For this assessment, I selected the Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice. This model was chosen due to its systematic approach to identifying clinical issues, evaluating evidence, and implementing practice changes. In NURS FPX 4025 Assessment 2, the Iowa Model helps in efficiently translating research findings into nursing practice.
Clinical Issue and Justification
The clinical issue addressed in this assessment is the prevention of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), specifically catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs). This issue was selected due to its prevalence and significant impact on patient safety. Furthermore, reducing CAUTIs can lower healthcare costs and improve care quality.
Application of the EBP Model
Using the Iowa Model, I identified CAUTI prevention as a priority problem. Next, I reviewed current literature and guidelines on catheter care protocols. Evidence-supported interventions such as nurse-led catheter removal protocols and routine catheter necessity assessments were selected. Additionally, I developed an implementation plan that includes staff education and continuous monitoring.
Expected Outcomes and Evaluation
In NURS FPX 4025 Assessment 2, the expected outcomes include reduced CAUTI rates, improved patient safety, and enhanced staff compliance with catheter protocols. The success of the plan will be evaluated through infection rate tracking, staff feedback, and audit reports. Continuous data review will guide necessary adjustments to the plan.
Conclusion
Applying the Iowa Model in this assessment demonstrates the effectiveness of structured EBP frameworks in addressing clinical issues. This approach supports consistent, research-informed decision-making and enhances nursing practice. Ultimately, it promotes better patient outcomes and advances evidence-based care in clinical settings.
